In the next few minutes you will be introduced to Dr. Sheibani the founder and medical director of the New Me Institute. We will also introduce you to several of the New Me Institute's patients, they will tell you of the change that they wanted in their life and how they accomplished it. This is not about vanity. And now, the founder of the New Me Institute Dr. Shane Sheibani, born in Persia Dr. Shane as he is known by many of his patients was fascinated by the science of medicine at an early age. As a young man, he left his family and the chaos of the Middle East to pursue his passion for surgery and entered medical school. Later he was admitted to Yale University School of Medicines Affiliated Surgical Residency Program. Upon completion of his training in cosmetic surgery, Dr. Sheibani passed the American Board of Cosmetic Surgeries examination on his very first try. It is his vast experience of personal life care and commitment to excellence that earned Dr. Sheibani runner-up, Best Plastic Surgeon in the reader's choice award at the Daily News in 2003. Patients at the New Me Institute come from all walks of life, professions, and backgrounds.
PATIENT : My occupation, I am a chiropractor. I work in adolescence facility. It is a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility for juveniles.
PATIENT: Night lab Latino.
PATIENT: I am a manager for Stater Brothers Grocery Market.
PATIENT: I am a real estate agent.
PATIENT: I am a customer service representative, I assist sales representatives.
PATIENT: I am an executive assistant for Dr. Sheibani.
PATIENT: I am a cake decorator. A wedding cake maker. A party cake maker. I do portraits on cakes. I do all kinds of cakes, that's what I do.
PATIENT: I am a landscape designer. I work on the homes of a lot of people in Hollywood and the TV and Film industry. I redesign entertainment areas, entries, a lot of people have houses with tired older entertainment areas. We just do a home makeover. Dr. Sheibani does pretty much the same thing with people's appearances that we do with people's homes.
PATIENT: It is something that I wanted to do since a teenager. I was kind of hoping that I would eventually one day develop and when it did not happen and it did not happen, I got past, there will, may be a late bloomer, its always been something I wanted to do.
PATIENT: You get customer saying how you look everyday in the mirror and I guess my wife over a period of a couple of year is telling me how old I looked, was enough to convince me that I should try to improve my appearance.
PATIENT: What I use to always feel, the felt it on myself, I always felt like there was just something missing. I was not complete somehow and there is me and my sister and a cousin, we are the only three girls in the whole family and I was the only one that had absolutely no breasts and I was ashamed of that a lot, where I wouldn't want to wear clothes that would even show that, I didn't have or even if I did have a little bit, it was really, really uncomfortable. Even being around my husband sometimes, I was uncomfortable to even take my shirt off.
PATIENT: ______.
PATIENT: Well, through my whole life I have gone through wanting breast augmentation and I have always been told that I did not need it and I couldn't have it. So, when I became single, I decided that I was going to do what I wanted for me and that is when I considered breast augmentation, then after that, I decided I wanted several other things, so that is what I have done.
PATIENT: So, it took me, while it took me about almost 10 years, to go ahead and say, you know what, this is what I want and this is what I am going to do.
PATIENT: I was droop in an area where I didn't want to droop any more as a 45-year-old. I anticipated having breasts like when I was in my 20s. I had two kids and my stomach was, you know, not right and I thought I needed a tummy tuck and I went to different plastic surgeons and they told me "Yes, lets do the tummy tuck."
DR. SHEIBANI: I tried always to see what I can do for this one person. I never sort of cookie-cutter a procedure for them, and that is really what is exciting. You go to the operating room and then you try to come up with a least invasive technique to give them a maximum improvement, whether it is a breast augmentation and I can do a reversal lift from the inside from a transumbilical approach or whether it is a face lift with a minimal scar or doing a, you know, nasal cosmetic surgery with a least amount of scarring and deformity.
PATIENT: He then said, that I have been to the doctor's offices, I said doctor, I come for a tummy tuck. What is the procedure? Can you tell me? He said, "Honey! you do not need a tummy tuck." I said, what? and then I said you know two doctors have told me that I need a tummy tuck. He says, no, with the liposuction I can keep you beautiful. I say, no...hhhhh..
DR. SHEIBANI: Just a couple of days ago, I had this young lady, she is a 57-year-old African-American lady we did a tummy tuck. She used to walk around. She was telling me she would just lift up the lower part of her abdomen and just go up the stairs and just you know strain. We did a tummy tuck on her and then…
PATIENT: Well, actually I have been in physical education class at the Antelope Valley College for the last three years and working out hard, low carbs, the whole bit and I had this belly that was just not going anywhere, super tired of it, can pick it up with my hand and I thought, may be I should look into plastic surgery, may be they will tell me to lose more weight first, I hope not, so I decided, I looked in the paper one Sunday and his New Me Institute ad was in there and I thought wow..wow…wow.. lets call and get a consultation. It is for free, what do I have to lose, so I made the appointment, I came in, his personality was so nice and friendly and this made you feel totally secure. He had an ear for the problems that I was talking about. He was very concerned. He made me feel like I have come to the right place and he could help me. I left excited as I will get it. He showed with the marker what he could do. I could not have it done fast enough. All my neighbors and friends thought why don't you go out and check out other plastic surgeons, I said no, I absolutely adore him, so I had the surgery and here I am.
DR. SHEIBANI: One day, I saw her in tight jeans and tight shirts, and just you know having this little 3-year-old grand daughter with her and she looked like the mother and she was all excited going to see her friend, you know, and just excitement, you know, it is just an energizing experience, especially when you had a long day or something like that and you have a patient that comes, you know, looks like this and has a big smile on her face. It just feels like her whole life has been transformed and she tells you about it and she brings out people, you know, I saw her actually with a bunch of her friends and how she was just talking and just expressing how her life is different.
PATIENT: I am a surviving cancer patient. So, I had had approximately 11 years of radiation treatment, medical treatments with medication, steroids, weight up, weight down, you name it, from 163 pounds to 103 pound range over obviously 11-year time frame. The moments when I was strong, when I was weak. It just honestly didn't number and I just needed some help, getting it backward it should have been. I had always thought about it for approximately over a 5-year time frame but the final event was I had to participate in court one day as a witness. And as I was going through the check-in point, the officer asked for my license and he looked at it and he looked at me and he said, boy, you don't look like this any more, and that's the __________. And at that point, I said I am going to find one that I can feel comfortable with and that can take of this. In about six months later I did. It was the advertisement for the New Me Institute. I saw it on television. I heard it on the radio. I investigated it on the internet, before ever decided on any one particular doctor, so it had a lot to do with what the institute itself had to offer and had to say before actually meeting the doctor.
PATIENT: Basically, I went through the Internet and looked through our goals and I found New Me Institute in one of the LA weeklies. And I saw that the doctor was, I believe, first runner-up of breast augmentation of the year, so that really interested me, and the price looked pretty reasonable. So, I thought I will check it out and I did and I was happy.
PATIENT: Actually, I totally trusted the office. The personally is wonderful. There are very friendly, very outgoing and it is nice to come here.
PATIENT: ________.
PATIENT: I have no complaints about their office. Their bedside manner is wonderful. They treat you like they actually care, even if they didn't, they treat you like they do. They are wonderful. And my postop, I came in I was taken care of. I wasn't treated like I was another number or just a procedure. And that was one of my decisions in coming here also. In the beginning, which was the way I was treated.
PATIENT: When I decided that I wanted to go forward with my surgery, I had a conversation with my OB/GYN and I wanted his input on, if he thought if this was something that I should do and if he thought that if I did it, would it look okay and immediately he encouraged me and said I think that, well it wasn't really an encouragement. He said, I think you should do it because I know you and you have always talked about it as long as I have known you and he gave me a couple of names. He said I am going to give a you a couple of names of doctors that are well known in the industry and are good. I have seen their work and Dr. Sheibani was the second name he gave me.
PATIENT: I was impressed of the quality of his before and after pictures. I could see the substantial improvement. I knew there wasn't any guarantee what I was going to look like after the procedures, you know, as the saying goes, "you pay your money and you take your chances." But, I was impressed. I thought his results were as good as any other plastic surgeons and some of the plastic surgeons out there where charging twice as much as Dr. Sheibani was for the same procedures.
PATIENT: He went beyond my expectations. I did not believe, I came, I shared, put all trust on the doctor but I still, you know, nahh……., liposuction is not going ________. He went beyond my expectations. He earned my respect. When I got here I came into the office and the office staff when I signed in was just, Hello!, how are you, welcome with a huge welcome and then took me to the back and the back nurse asked a bunch of questions and actually sat and talked to me. I didn't feel like it was just general standard questions that they just need an answer to, they wanted to know about me. Meeting the nurses was a positive thing, very friendly, very family oriented and I am a very outgoing friendly person, our personalities just clicked. I thought I feel so secure at home. I felt very comfortable and I thought this is it and so I knew right there that this is where I wanted to stay. I had not had a bad experience yet, so why look for any more. So, I put down the guard and just decided okay, this is what I am going to do, I relaxed and then went forward with the questions and waited to see what my answers were and pretty much none of the questions I asked was expecting anything but the answer that I go, so that was, I was very comfortable. I immediately got on my cell phone, called my husband to make sure, I could lock in a surgery date right then and there that day and pay my deposits. That's how for sure I was with him, his staff, just took me one day, one day, and since then I have had tummy tuck. I have liposuction and now I am scheduled to have breast augmentation. So, I am a happy camper, this will be the third surgery, and I am thinking Christmas time, what shall I have done then..hhaa..haa..
DR. SHEIBANI: We are human beings, we have several aspects of us you know and our psychology is just as important as our physicality is, you know, it has to be respected. It has to be part of our patient care. It has to be part of our existence, you know, it has to, you know, and sort of, you know, if I connected a patient and the patients connect to me and the staff connect to us, and sort of we have that bond, obviously it is a much stronger relationship and that is what we wanted to cultivate at the New Me Institute.
PATIENT: I am almost 50 right now, so I was almost 48 when, just had turned 48, when I had my first procedure. At that time, the view of myself was way too old and wore down for what the inside of me felt like. Now, I feel like I have got another 48 years more to go. I have the energy inside. I just need the outside to catch up or go back or be equal to or at least feel like it has the same start and the same length of time left to go in it.

PATIENT: I have always had a very, very bubbly personality on the outside. I have always been a very confident person, I will tell you off in a heartbeat though, I speak my mind. I don't hold anything back but it wasn't what I really wanted to be on the outside. My inside did not reflect my outside. The person I was before and the person I am now after the surgery is, I just have one big word that would mention would be confident. I just feel very, very happy and very thrilled about my new body and it makes such a difference for me in my clothes and the way I looked in front of the mirror. When I first came to New Me Institute, I was very anxious as to walk in and walk out, you know with my new-fitted breast and then after everything was achieved and in my postop as everything was healed and stitches all gone and pain not there, I was really impressed and I was really happy. I felt like _________ decision, so what am I going to do next.
PATIENT: I guess you could say a transformation takes place, if you could roll back time 10 years, it is certainly a transformation. I know I feel full of energy. I feel youthful and now feel like my parents matches how I actually do feel.
PATIENT: Now I feel, I just went may be one step up, you know one level up and I feel better, I feel better.
PATIENT: He told me in three months your going to be the way you are going to be and he was right again. Hhha…. because my husband said, Hey! today is your anniversary, three months from the surgery how are you. He said, Hey! the doctor was right… yeah yeah…you look good. If it is like the song Patti LaBelle with New Attitude, that's how I feel. I told him, l said look at me, don't I look haaa….. and the doctor thought, oh my god!, she is crazy, but I feel like a whole new person, I feel bossy, I feel sexy, I just feel like I tell the world "look at me, look at me, look at me now, _________. I like to go places and to feel good about myself, before I did not feel good about myself I was wearing really big clothes. I just didn't want to show myself. I was embarrassed of how I looked and now I feel like when I was single and enjoying. I just recently got a new car in which the top comes off and I just applied for personal license plate, "cute pie", because that is how I feel. He has given me back all of me again, so now I am free. I feel like I am cute pie, I can go to the gym, I can wear the outfit, I can just do everything now. Walking through that door was one of the best things that I have done for myself since I have had my children, which started 26 years ago. I am 46-year-old grandmother but I am not a grandmother, you will not find that on my license plate, you are going to find cute pie on my license plate.
PATIENT: I just drained down, I mean, I have become ________ that I just say hey I made a different for you, I go with you, lets make the time, you have to go. It is affordable. It is good. It is yeah…, I recommended to anybody.
PATIENT: I think if you are not happy about some things and you can say that's going to make you feel better go forward. You know, why should you go for the rest of your life, hating something about yourself or feeling uncomfortable if you can change it, you know I mean what is the big deal, go ahead and get it done and that is it, do not think about it too much, because you'll feel better afterwards. You will feel better about yourself.
PATIENT: I have been to at least five other plastic surgeons, they all got excellent results, some of them, the prices were just way beyond what I could consider. What you have to look forward if you put $20,000 on your credit cards for the next three or four years of paying it off, so his prices where very affordable. The service was excellent and I would highly recommend his services.
PATIENT: Go for it. Absolutely. I have had it done. I can tell you the place to go, to the best staff around and I would recommend it to anybody.
PATIENT: Plastic surgery is not what it use to be, I think people used to thin, ohh….plastic surgery is to try to change your look. It is not about changing your look it is about making you feel better, about yourself, and that is what it did for me, I mean I as missing something and now I am not.
PATIENT: Ask where I went, I carry cards in my wallet. I hand them out. I am very proud of it. I have nothing to be ashamed of or to hide. I don't believe in the fact that If I had plastic surgery, I should have to keep it a secret. I don' t necessarily wear a neon sign saying "facelift here", you know, but at the same time I have no problem talking to people about it. It is not just about the procedure, it is the whole thing.
